African literature for young readers

Deborah Ahenkorah founder of the Golden Baobab Award and publisher at African Bureau Stories and I are working on a new project.  We are in search of African writers working in the area of fiction for young readers in order to mentor, edit and find publishers for their works.  The aim of the project is to introduce wonderful authors, living and working on the African continent, to readers in Africa and around the world.  Both Deborah and I have spent our careers working in children’s publishing and as avid readers of both children’s and adult fiction it seems that there is a lack of fiction for young readers by African authors, about Africa published for the worldwide audience.  Wish us luck!  There is without a doubt a wealth of talented people – it will be tough making choices.
